Lado Gudiashvili

BIOGRAPHY
Lado Gudiashvili (1896–1980) was a monumental Georgian painter, graphic artist, and stage designer, widely celebrated as a pivotal figure of Georgian Modernism. Educated in Tbilisi and at private academies in Paris, his work beautifully bridged national cultural roots with European avant-garde movements.
Inspired by medieval wall paintings and oriental miniatures, Gudiashvili’s highly stylized, dynamic compositions are characterized by romantic symbolism and rich color. Alongside a stellar international footprint - including early solo exhibitions in Paris and participation in the XVI Venice Biennale (1928) - his execution of the historic Kashveti Church altar murals and decades as a distinguished professor seal his legacy as a titan of 20th-century Georgian art.
