BIOGRAPHY
Ucha Japaridze (1906–1988) was a monumental Georgian painter, graphic artist, and educator, widely celebrated as one of the most influential figures of 20th-century Georgian art.
Educated in Tbilisi under legendary masters like Lado Gudiashvili and David Kakabadze, he was a key pillar in transitioning Georgian visual arts into structural realism.
Japaridze’s extensive practice was renowned for its profound ethnographic focus, capturing the spirit of the Caucasus through meticulous portraits, regional landscapes, and prominent monumental panels.
Serving as a distinguished professor and Rector of the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts (1942–1948), his massive academic legacy [6] is beautifully preserved today in the Ucha Japaridze House-Museum.
